Coin Description

This 1873 Liberty Head quarter eagle, Closed 3, is a Proof Cameo certified PCGS PR64. The supplied note records a mintage of only 25 pieces and describes frosted cameo devices set against deep mirrored fields. The Closed 3 date style is a key attribution detail for 1873 issues and adds further specialist interest. Proof quarter eagles of the early 1870s were produced in tiny numbers for collectors, and their survival depends heavily on careful handling across generations. With only two examples reported higher at PCGS, this coin occupies a significant grade position for the issue.
