Coin Description

GEM ROMAN FINISHED SURFACES. ONLY 682 STRUCK. JUST 5 COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. CAC.

Introduced in 1909, the Philadelphia Mint also employed the Roman Gold finish to deliver 682 proof Quarter Eagles in 1910.  The astute buyer will immediately notice that this mintage figure is the largest in the proof Indian Two-and-a-Half series by a wide margin.  (The next-highest mintage is that of the 1908 at only 236 coins.)  Either Mint employees made an erroneous entry in the record books, or most of the coins struck were destroyed as unsold, because the 1910 is much rarer than the original mintage might suggest.  We believe that only 75-100 coins have survived.

The incorporation of the Boy Scouts of America on February 8 represented a significant commitment to the development of young boys across the nation, instilling values of patriotism, courage, and self-reliance. This same year also marked a pivotal moment in broadcasting history with Lee de Forest's transmission of live opera performances from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, showcasing the potential of radio as a medium for entertainment and information. Meanwhile, the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington, on June 19, initiated by Sonora Smart Dodd, laid the foundation for an annual nationwide tradition honoring fathers and father figures. The passage of Earth through the tail of Halley's Comet in 1910 captivated millions with its celestial spectacle, fostering widespread public interest in astronomy. Additionally, the year witnessed technological advancements that would shape the American landscape for decades to come. Georges Claude's introduction of neon lighting in Paris hinted at the future brightness of American cities, while the Model T Ford's dominance in the automobile market, facilitated by Henry Ford's assembly line production, revolutionized transportation and solidified the car's role in American society.
