It’s one of only four known proof 1803 Draped Bust silver dollars, and it’s insured for $1 million.

Those who attend the Nov. 17-20 Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo at the Santa Clara, Calif., Convention Center, 5100 Great America Parkway, will get to see it up close.

The coin will be the featured exhibit at the show.

"It’s an exquisite example from the famous Cardinal Collection, and graded PCGS Proof-66 cameo," said Ronald J. Gillio, expo general chairman.

Gillio said the coin will be displayed during the first three days of the show courtesy of Steven L. Contursi, the president of Rare Coin Wholesalers of Dana Point, Calif.

The proof 1803 dollar that will be exhibited is described as Bolender-7, Large 3 Draped Bust dollar with Heraldic Eagle reverse.

"Researchers are not sure exactly when the 1803 proof dollars were produced, but most agree it was in the mid-1800s. It is believed no more than 10 were struck at the Philadelphia Mint, but only four surviving examples are known today," said Gillio.

Superior Galleries of Beverly Hills, California will conduct the official rare coin auction during the show. A children’s treasure hunt will be conducted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, and a gold coin door prize will be awarded each day of the show.

Admission is $6, good for all four days; $3 for seniors (65 and up) and children 8 to 16; children 7 and under are admitted free.

Free parking is available at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway.
