A rare 1794 American silver coin possibly touched by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton was sold Thursday night by an Irvine auction house for a record-breaking $10 million. The coin was previously sold by Steven Contursi of RCW Financial, for a world record $7.85 million.

Steven L. Contursi, who has owned a mint-condition 1794 Liberty dollar for the past seven years, confirmed Thursday that he sold it to the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation of Sunnyvale for $7.85 million - setting the new world record for the Most Expensive Coin.
