Brasher Doubloon Tour Adds Two Stops

Long Beach Expo Press Release
Tuesday March 1, 2005

(Dana Point, CA) - Two additional exhibits have been added to the cross-country tour of the unique 1787 Brasher doubloon with the "EB" countermark on the eagle's breast.

In addition to the previously announced exhibitions, the famous gold coin also will be displayed at the Santa Clara, California Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, March 31 - April 3, and at the Central States Numismatic Society (CSNS) convention, May 4 - 8, 2005.

"We are all delighted to be able to make this historic numismatic treasure available for public viewing at our show," said Kevin Foley, CSNS Convention General Chairman.

"Response was tremendous to a sneak preview of the Brasher doubloon at the February Long Beach Expo," said Steven L. Contursi, President of Rare Coin Wholesalers of Dana Point, California ( www.RareCoinWholesalers.com ) who purchased it in January.  "There were prominent stories about the coin in the Los Angeles Times and the Orange County Register newspapers."

The coin was hand-struck in 1787 by George Washington's Cherry Street neighbor in New York City, gold and silversmith Ephraim Brasher.

Former American Numismatic Association President, Kenneth E. Bressett, recently commented: "The gold Brasher doubloon is without doubt our country's most famous and significant coin."

The coin is certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC XF45).  NGC Chairman, Mark Salzberg, stated: "This coin may be the most important coin I have ever examined and graded.  It is the first gold colonial and it most likely was held by George Washington!  It's truly a museum piece and the ultimate Americana."

There now will be five upcoming exhibits of the Brasher doubloon including its "homecoming" to New York City; the first time the coin will be in its city of origin since the 1890s.

The revised schedule is:

Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo, March 31 - April 3, Santa Clara, California

ANA National Money Show™, Kansas City, Missouri, April 8 - 10.

Central States Numismatic Convention, May 4 - 8, St. Louis, Missouri

New York Invitational Coin Show, June 30 and July 1

American Numismatic Association World's Fair of Money®, San Francisco, July 27 - 31.
