The Santa Clara Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo will feature one of the four known examples of the 1879 Quintuple Stella/Metric gold double eagle patterns, in the piece’s first public appearance in Northern California.

The exposition is scheduled for July 21 to 24 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Quintuple Stella coin was once part of the legendary Louis E. Eliasberg Sr. Collection. Graded Proof 64 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America, the pattern will be shown courtesy of Steven L. Contursi of Rare Coin Wholesalers.

The convention is a few days before the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money, which is the following week in San Francisco.   The Santa Clara Expo will offer pre-registration and auction lot information for those attending the ANA event.

"In addition to a special exhibit of the Quintuple Stella and our regular Santa Clara line-up, including another outstanding Elite Coin Auction by Superior Galleries of Beverly Hills, we’ll help dealers and collectors save time prior to the ANA convention," said Ronald J. Gillio, the exposition’s general chairman.

Among the highlights of the Superior Galleries auction is the Pacific Rim Collection of Proof Liberty Double Eagles, a few dozen coins which range in dates from 1860 through 1907, with cameo issues.

Also cataloged is the Staten Island 1893-S Morgan Dollar Complete PCGS Circulated Grading Set Collection, comprising issues from About Good 4 through About Uncirculated 58 graded by Professional Coin Grading Service.

Superior will auction the Battle Creek Collection of Rainbow Morgan Silver Dollars, an "advanced small selection of some of the finest star-designated rainbow and toned silver dollars ever to come to the marketplace," according to the firm.

The Fitzgerald Nevada Club Reno Hoard Collection of Morgan Dollars and Chip Sets and Tokens, offering an array of Morgan dollars, tokens and chips from the Nevada Club in Reno, also is in the sale.

At the Santa Clara Expo, Heritage Galleries, the official auctioneer for the ANA convention, will show auction lots for its Signature and Bullet sales.

American Numismatic Rarities and Bowers and Merena will also show their lots prior to the ANA convention; both plan auctions in conjunction with the ANA convention.

Multiple educational seminars will be set during the convention. "Buying and Selling on eBay," presented by eBay, a co-sponsor of the event, will be held at noon on July 22 and 23.

"Arms and the Man," will be presented by Freeman & Sear on July 22 at 11 a.m.

Rick Montgomery of Numismatic Guaranty Corporation will discuss "NGC Conservation of Coins" on July 22 at 4 p.m.

Al Lowe’s lecture on "Hawaiian Money and Medals" is set for July 23 at 2:30 p.m.   For children, the expo will conduct a treasure hunt July 23, and a door prize of a gold coin will be awarded each day.

Hours for the convention are July 21 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., July 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.    Admission is $4 for all four days and free parking is available at the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great American Parkway.
