Steve Contursi, who along with Donald Kagin purchased the unique 1787 Brasher doubloon with "EB" countermark on the breast for $2.99 million in January, has announced that the coin will be displayed at several shows across the country.

First stop will be a sneak preview at his Rare Coin Wholesalers booth (#623) at the Feb. 24-26 Long Beach Coin, Stamp and Collectibles Expo.

He also plans to display it at the American Numismatic Association National Money Show in Kansas City, Mo., April 8-10; the New York Invitational Coin Show, June 30-July 1; and the ANA World's Fair of Money in San Francisco July 27-31.

The Brasher coin will be joined at the ANA events by Contursi's 1794 Bust silver dollar, the finest known 1794 silver dollar and the only one with a silver plug, which may also be the first silver dollar struck by the U.S. Mint.  It is currently on display at the ANA Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"The Brasher doubloon and 1794 dollar are national treasures with tremendous significance for early American history, as well as numismatics," Contursi said.  "They underscore the beginnings of our economic system."

"I've always wanted to own a Brasher doubloon.  Now I can share my joy of collecting by displaying the coin so that many people across the country can personally see it and learn about its historical importance.  Besides, after a hundred years, it's time this coin visited its hometown for at least a few days."
