"This outstanding exhibit showcases five superb condition gold and silver coins, registered by Pan-Pac officials as the sixth of 24 original complete sets made at the time," said Ronald J. Gillio, expo general chairman.
The set, now valued at $700,000, will be displayed courtesy of Steven L. Contursi, president of Rare Coin Wholesalers.
Included in the display is the original copper and glass frame and original box that housed the coins when they were initially sold. Accompanying the set is an original booklet from the famous exposition that was held in San Francisco from Feb. 20-Dec. 4, 1915. More than 500 dealers will be buying and selling at the show. The Cupertino Coin Club will display exhibits, and educational seminars will take place.
Superior Galleries will conduct the expo's official auction. A children's treasure hunt will be held April 12, and a gold coin door prize will be awarded each day.
Public hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. April 10, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 11-12, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m April 13. Regular admission is $6. Seniors ages 65 and up, children ages 8 to 16 and anyone with a valid coin or stamp club membership card are admitted for $3. Children ages 7 and under are admitted free.
