Whitman Expo Sells Out Bourse

The Whitman Coin and Collectibles Atlanta Expo's dealer booth capacity is sold out, announced David Crenshaw, general manager.  The show will take place in Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 11-13.

"This is our earliest sellout of dealer booths in the show's five-year history," says Crenshaw.  "It's an indication of the strength of the hobby in general and dealer interest in the Atlanta show in particular."

Those who didn't sign up in time are encouraged to get on the booth waiting list and to take advantage of the show's Early Bird registration.  Whitman Publishing recently took over management of the Baltimore Coin and Currency Conventions.  Dealers can expect the same level of service at the Atlanta expo, Crenshaw says.

"Sellers, collectors and the general public all have a great time in Atlanta," says Crenshaw.  "Dealers know they can do serious business here, while enjoying the social life of a major city with Southern charm.  Collectors bring their families and make a vacation of it.  Stone Mountain and Dahlonega are both nearby, full of numismatic history."

The show's exhibit highlight will be the finest-known Territorial gold coin, Augustus Humbert's personal example of the 1854 Kellogg & Co. $20 gold coin. It is a unique specimen striking certified SP-69 by PCGS.  The exhibit is sponsored by Rare Coin Wholesalers.

There will be two Stack's auctions.  The first will feature paper money from the John J. Ford Jr. collection.  The second will showcase obsolete notes, federal issues in nearly all series and items from the American Bank Note Company archives.  A selection of paper money from the collection of Q. David Bowers will be among the highlights.

The Atlanta Expo's auctions and exhibits attract numismatists from around the country.  Collectors from the Southeast drive from Nashville, Jacksonville, Columbia, Tallahassee, Charlotte and Orlando.

The expo will also have programs for young collectors, speaker presentations and autograph sessions with Q. David Bowers, Rick Snow and David Lange.  American Numismatic Association Certification Service, Independent Coin Grading Co., National Guaranty Corporation, Professional Coin Grading Service and Sovereign Entities Grading Service Inc. will be represented.

The show will be at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Northwest Atlanta from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Parking and admission are free.
